Energy Department Supports Ocean Carbon Capture and Storage

Secretary Granholm says the projects “will develop groundbreaking new technologies to cut emissions.“

The Department of Energy recently announced that 11 projects across 8 states will receive a combined $36 million to move forward the development of ocean carbon capture technology.

The ocean is a primary way that air is filtered within the earth’s atmosphere. Some of the carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air is absorbed by seawater so, as CO2 increases in the atmosphere, it also increases in the waters of the ocean. Increased acidity from the carbon dioxide could pose a risk to current ocean life. The 11 projects chosen by the DOE will use the funding they received to monitor oceanic CO2 and develop new ways to remove excess CO2 from ocean waters.

“With critical funding from DOE, project teams from across the country will develop groundbreaking new technologies to cut emissions that will help combat the climate crisis while reinforcing America’s global leadership in the clean energy industries of the future,” said Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. energy officials to seek God’s wisdom as they endeavor to address carbon emissions.
  • For Secretary Granholm to be prudent in her promotion of carbon capture technology.
  • For the president and his administration as they continue to address climate change.
